The five federal states of Bremen, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein have jointly awarded this prize, worth over \u20ac250,000, since 2012. The award ceremony is planned for September 2026. Applications can be submitted until 17 April 2026.   <\/p>\n\n<p>The northern German states are working closely together to strengthen their research cooperation. An important component of this cooperation is the North German Science Award, which honours projects that strengthen scientific networks across state borders. These projects can range from basic research to applied research.  <\/p>\n\n<p>The call for proposals is aimed at projects that promote scientific networking between the five federal states and enhance their national and international visibility. Projects that bring together different disciplines and institutes are particularly welcome. <\/p>\n\n<p>The Minister of Science for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and current chair of the North German Science Ministers&#8217; Conference (NWMK), Bettina Martin, emphasises the importance of cooperation between the northern German states and sees the North German Science Award as an important step towards strengthening these partnerships.
